Role in the project

The Austrian Motorway and Expressway Network Operator (ASFINAG) is the ICT4CART overall test site integration and data collection manager of the project. ASFINAG also supplies and operates 2 of the test sites, the site for Automated Driving near the city of Graz as well as the Cross Border test site together with Autostrada del Brennero. ASFINAG will oversee the application of the ICT4CART reference architecture at the test sites and will issue a report on any necessary adaptations. Finally, ASFINAG will provide a workable demonstrator for the Austrian test site. In addition, ASFINAG will contribute to all the tasks, especially the data management, market requirements and cost analysis, from a network operator’s point of view.

Automated driving will profoundly change the mobility of the future.The Austrian Ministry of Transport, together with ASFINAG and other Austrian actors, are already working to ensure the implemented infrastructure and corresponding C-ITS services offered are harmonised with the neighbouring countries (including along the C-ITS corridor NL-DE-AT). Thus, the Austrian infrastructure will be attractive for the entire European automotive industry as a test region. With ICT4CART the ICT network for delivering data to and receiving data from the vehicles will be put into permanent operation and the core data elements will hold the dynamic data for the entire highway network including the Test Tracks. Top priority will be given to the verification of harmonisation by means of thorough Cross Border testing.
